joy in the morning

April 6th is a significant date to many people, but it is a very special date for us. 20 years ago we were delighted to cuddle our first child, a beautiful baby girl. There is an old saying that joy cometh in the morning, and sure enough, Joss made her appearance at 1:20 in the morning. We named her Josslin Elizabeth, she weighed in at 9 lbs. 13 oz, and was 21 inches long.

I remember her trying to open her eyes in the delivery room, but the lights were so bright! When the nurse turned down the lights, she opened up those beautiful eyes and looked around her new world. We took her home that night, and she slept all night long!! "wow, this is going to be a piece of cake!" I thought.....little did I know that was the only night she would sleep through until she was over 2 yrs old!! It would take a wise old pediatrician to tell us that screaming for hours until she vomited would not hurt her, and that we needed to decide who was the parent, and who was the child.
Here she is at about 1 month, isn't she beautiful? But who are those young kids holding her? Wow, where did those years go?!

During my pregnancy we had prayed that Josslin would have a strong mind and body. This request was granted as she has always been at the top of the class. Student of the month in kindergarten was only the beginning.

Don't you love it when they lose their teeth? Too cute!
We brought our kids home from public school when Joss was in the 7th grade. When she was 15, she started classes at the junior college, graduating with honors at 17 despite a head injury she got in a car accident in late October the previous year.

Josslin has been a joy to raise, and has been my best friend (except for Paul) for several years. She is a compassionate, generous, funny girl, who is very motivated to get her education. She is majoring in Psychology at BYUI, with hopes of counseling victims of PTSD, or working with law enforcement officers. We are so blessed to have her in our home, and look forward to the time she brings us grandbabies to spoil rotten. Did ya hear that Joss? So get busy!! ; )

We went out to a local Mexican restaraunt for her birthday, and then to see a movie, followed by cake and ice cream the next night. Boy, does she know how to stretch out a birthday, or what?

Happy Birthday girl! We love you very much.
